Gift Guide – Secret Santa

Secret Santa definitely seems to be a common occurrence across workplaces, and I think the typical budget is around the £5-£15 mark. I thought I’d stick down a few ideas of bits and pieces that I thought would be ideal for gifting to work colleagues.

Novelty Hat

Last year I was given some festive props as my Secret Santa, and it was certainly a talking point for that evening’s work Christmas party. This turkey hat is under £5 and I think it is rather amusing.

Beauty Bauble

Despite the silly hat idea above, Secret Santa doesn’t have to be something ridic. I noticed last year that there were loads of beauty baubles in the shops, and this year there are even gin baubles. Anyway, there are a nice selection of these in Space NK, and this divine oil ‘bauble’ from Caudalie is £8.

Stationery

How cool is this unicorn tape dispenser!! It’s under a tenner too.

Mug

A quirky mug seems to be a fail safe Secret Santa… I love these risqué mugs from Dirty Sentiments at £11.99 each.

Personalised Lanyard

We have swipe cards at my work, and so some of us wear these round our necks on a lanyard. Anyway, for under £5 you can have a lanyard personalised with your own text… perhaps your recipients nickname or the like.

Gift Guide – For the Ladies

With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I would share with you some ideas for presents. I’ve previously posted gift guides on my Glasgow Mummy site, and you can find them here. I’ve actually finished my Christmas shopping now, and I’m rather chuffed with myself. I’ve even wrapped them! So I can now relax and enjoy the festivities over the next 5 weeks in the lead up to the big day!

Anyway, without further ado…

Beauty:

I have been loving the bareMinerals The Wish List palette. The colours are gorgeous, and the pay off is really good. The packaging is also stunning – it has a firework-style design on the lid, and there is a large mirror on the inside. My only wish (!) is that there was a brush included, like the Urban Decay Naked palettes. The palette is £39.

Skincare:

I’m a huge fan of Origins skincare, and their Christmas gift sets are great value for money. The Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask is one of my favourite products from Origins, and it features in a few of the sets, like the one below. A new cream that I’ve been trying is the High-Potency Night-A-Mins and it is such a nice moisturiser – thick consistency, but absorbs quickly and it has a nice botanical smell and it also features in this set. The set is £35 but all the products are worth over £71.

Candles:

These soy wax candles are made right here in Glasgow, by Candelle & Co. I have a Prosecco scented one, and it smells so good! This one is gin & tonic with lemongrass and ginger, and is just £14.

Fashion:

Last year my sister got me a blanket scarf for my Christmas, which I love. I’ve found this one at Oliver Bonas (£38) which looks super cosy and the colours are not too crazy, so it would be a safe bet if  you weren’t totally sure of your recipients taste in fashion.

Accessories:

I’ve been using a little coin purse to carry around some of my cards in my handbag, and I think a credit card case would be a lovely present. This one by Coach available at John Lewis looks fab – the colours are lovely. It’s £45.

Homes & Interiors:

There has been a lot of press lately about Hygge, and creating a warm atmosphere. This throw from Antropologie looks so cosy and I love the tassel detailing… it’s expensive at £128 but would be a lovely gift if your budget allows.

Interested in finding out more about the Hygge way of life… then join us at the Scottish Mothers Collective event this week. Details are here.

Forever Home – Living Room

I love my living room! My builders gutted the space, and have made a fantastic job reinstating it. There was woodworm that needed treating, the ceiling was replaced and they managed to save the ceiling rose and the cornicing, radiator removed and new one installed in a new location, new fireplace fitted, windows replaced, the woodwork and walls were painted and then finally parquet flooring laid.

Here are some before photos:

In progress…

Then the all important after photos:

Laura Ashley Loves

Since moving into the Forever Home, I have made a few large furniture purchases from Laura Ashley. Their customer service has been excellent, and I’m so happy with the items I chose that I thought I would share them with you.

I needed a new sofa, as in the Forever Home we’re lucky to have an informal playroom as well as the more formal ‘grown-up’ room. The purple sofa bed that we had previously from Marks and Spencer is now in the playroom and so I needed to choose a sofa for the other room. I really fancied a Chesterfield, but I wanted a sofa with a higher back so that it is comfortable as well as aesthetically pleasing. After a lot of online browsing and consideration, I picked the Mayfield from Laura Ashley in a grey tweed style fabric.

Another large purchase from Laura Ashley has been two freestanding wardrobes, which I managed to buy half price in one of their sales. The Rosalind range in dove grey is gorgeous. I’ve also subsequently purchased a matching tall boy, which will be delivered at the start of December. (PS I haven’t properly sorted the doors yet as I’m waiting for the carpet to be laid this week first so they perhaps look a little wonky!)

The final item that I wanted to mention are these LED pillar candles. They are the most realistic pillar candles I have seen as the flame moves and flickers, but they do come at a price (£45). That said, at the moment there is a 30% off sale which takes the price down somewhat. The candles also have a timer, and so they automatically come on & off which is an added bonus. Aren’t they stunning?

Christmas Wish List

Can you believe it’s November already!?! The kids have begun thinking about Christmas presents (of course they have!) and so I thought I would start to piece together my own Christmas Wish List… I will probably treat myself to something nice to open on Christmas morning!

On my flight to Australia, I heard all about Jo Loves on the in flight entertainment – they have a partnership with Emirates it transpires. Anyway, I hadn’t realised that it was a brand created by Jo Malone until then! I had previously spotted Jo Loves Smoked Plum and Leather fragrance, £110 for 100mL, in a magazine and had planned to see if I could get it at duty free but it wasn’t there; only the Pomelo fragrance was available on the plane itself.

I do love loungewear, and I really like the look of this Autograph felt wrap, £45. It’s a more stylish version of a housecoat/dressing gown*

Sticking with the loungewear, these Hush Metallic Star pyjamas look perfect for cold winter nights (of which there are plenty here in Scotland!). The trousers (£30) come in a longer length, hurrah!

I have a thing for candles… Last year I loved the Neom seasonal candle, Perfect Peace. I’d happily add the 3-wick version to my collection this year.

And perhaps the last item on my list would be a date with a tall, dark handsome man!!

*delete as appropriate, based on your preference. Mine is housecoat!
